On March 9, 2018, at 1:47 pm, a fire at 809 Golden West Way in the Chesapeake Ranch Estates in Lusby, was discovered by neighbors. The Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department responded. There was a smoke alarm present but the status is unknown.
There were injuries suffered by the occupant (non-life threatening) and minor burns to two fire fighters. All were treated and released.
Neighbors noticed a small fire extending to the deck of the home. The occupant attempted to extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful. The family was displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The preliminary cause was determined to be accidental due to discarded smoking materials. The fire to the 1 ½ story wood framed home caused $120,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents
