On June 23, 2015 members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police and Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the intersection of Md. Rt. 231 at Skipjack Road for the report of a motor vehicle collision.
Preliminary investigation shows that a 2007 Ford Focus was stopped on Hallowing Point Road (RT 231) westbound waiting to turn left into Calvert Mobile Home Park, just west of Skip Jack Road. A full sized SUV utilized the shoulder to pass the Ford Focus on the right and continued west. Directly behind the SUV was a 2013 Freightliner Sprinter Van which was also westbound. Possibly due to the SUV the Freightliner did not see the Ford Focus that was stopped waiting for traffic to clear to make a turn safely. The Sprinter Van struck the Ford Focus in the rear which pushed the Ford Focus into oncoming traffic. The Ford Focus was struck by a 2011 Honda Civic that was travelling eastbound along Rt. 231. As a result of the collision the Ford Focus rotated and came to rest in the middle of the roadway. The Honda also rotated after the collision with the Focus and entered the westbound travel lane of Rt. 231. A 2013 Ford Escape was behind the Freightliner and swerved towards the westbound shoulder in an attempt to miss the Honda. The Honda struck the Ford Escape in the left front corner and pushed it up against the guardrail on the westbound side of Route 231. The Freightliner continued west after the first collision with the Ford Focus into eastbound traffic and struck a 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 causing the driver to be ejected before the motorcycle came to rest on the eastbound shoulder. The Freightliner then entered the grass shoulder and struck a fence before coming to rest.
The driver of the Ford Focus and the operator of the Kawasaki Ninja M/C were transported to Prince Georges Shock Trauma, via Trooper 7, to be treated for their injuries. Both were listed in stable condition. One of the passengers in the Ford Focus, the driver of the Sprinter Van, the driver of the Honda Civic and the driver of the Ford Escape were all ground transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital where they were treated for their injuries. The second passenger in the Ford Focus was not injured.
