Island Hideaway Food Review

Tucked in a side street overlooking the water in Solomons, the Island Hideaway has plenty of parking in their lot. The restaurant is long and narrow. Upon entering the front door, there are tables for dining and a little further on the left is a bar and on the right more tables for dining. This evening the front tables were hosting a Wine and Design event, so we made our way to the back tables.

Our waitress appeared with menus and we asked what the Restaurant Week Special for dinner and learned it was filet mignon. We ordered our beverages and decided to have the crab ball appetizer, with cocktail sauce and tartar sauce. The beverages and crab balls appeared and we were ready to order dinner. We asked for a sample of the cream of crab soup but had too much curry for our liking. The

special of filet mignon with baked potato and applesauce, and the crabcake dinner with red potatoes and Coleslaw were chosen. We decided on Key Lime pie for dessert.

While awaiting our food, we were fascinated with the Wine and Design event going on in front of us. It was free entertainment. Although the restaurant wasn’t busy with diners this particular evening, the painters made up for it. The crab ball appetizers were very good, mostly crab meat and light seasoning.

Our entrées arrived and they looked and smelled great. And they even tasted wonderful. The filet was cooked to order and was very tender. The

broiled crab cakes were quite large and full of crab meat, very little filler and lightly seasoned. The Coleslaw was crisp and fresh and the red potatoes were quartered and seasoned with butter.

The Key Lime pie was very good with a fresh taste. So many times Key Lime pie is not made with Key Limes and so does not have the distinctive taste. This time we were not disappointed. Our total bill without tip was $73.69.

Although the menu is mainly seafood, they do offer chicken, prime rib, burgers, club sandwiches, filet mignon, salads and soups. You may call ahead and order to go. Dress is casual.
