Volunteers Sought for Beach Cleanup September 15

The annual International Coastal Cleanup at Janes Island State Park begins at 9 a.m. September 15.

This event provides volunteers the opportunity to learn more about the Somerset County park, have a boat ride and earn community service hours while cleaning beaches and marshes.

Volunteers are asked to register at the park’s nature center in the morning as well as wear appropriate and comfortable clothing for the day’s weather forecast. Light snacks and water will be provided as well as gloves, trash bags and other cleanup essentials.

Individuals are encouraged to bring their own vessel for transportation, but staff will also be able to transport volunteers by boat to different sections of the island. The cleanup will last approximately three hours, after which volunteers will be transported back to the mainland to tally up totals.

More information is available by calling 410-968-1565.
