It was the end of Restaurant Week in Calvert, so I invited a few friends to have dinner at Jerry’s Place for Seafood in Prince Frederick. The restaurant is located at the end of a strip mall, next to a tire shop. There was plenty of parking, even though the place was busy. As we all arrived within a few minutes of each other, our waitress was ready for us.
The walls of the restaurant are decorated with murals, of Jerry and his family, done in a cartoonistic style and very pleasing to the eye. We ordered our drinks and spent some time perusing the walls. Then we got down to ordering our appetizer and entrees. We decided on the steamed shrimp and the rockfish bites. The shrimp came in either a half pound or a pound. We decided on a half, which was plenty as the shrimp are really big! They were steamed perfectly and spiced just right, so you could actually taste the shrimp. The rockfish bites were crisp on the outside and nice and flaky on the inside. Both were an awesome way to start dinner.
For our entrees we decided on the crab cake sandwich, fried oysters, fried scallops and baked haddock. For our sides we wanted baked potatoes, stewed tomatoes, Coleslaw, and French fries. Apparently Jerry’s Place has two signature sides – stewed tomatoes and seasoned kale. I found the stewed tomatoes very nice but much too sweet for my taste. But others at the table liked it.
The crab cake sandwich was enormous. The cake was all crab and no filler! It was really good. The baked haddock was lightly seasoned and had a nice taste. My friends were so busy eating, the dinners had to be good. Not much conversation during the meal. So no complaints and our waitress was fairly attentive, checking and refilling our beverages.
Jerry was also in the restaurant, checking on all the customers and being the ever consummate host. He made sure everyone dining was having a great experience.
Finishing our meal, our waitress returned to pick up some of the dishes. We asked for a dessert menu and she said they don’t have one but told us our choices for the evening. We settled for the banana cream pie and the bread pudding.
Our experience was a pleasurable one. It is a very friendly place and it made us think about returning soon. The menu is limited but they do have appetizers, soups, sandwiches and entrees along with several sides. They also offer carryout on their menu. Everything is fish or seafood but they do offer chicken tenders for those who prefer.
