Jimmy Van Mitchell

Jimmy Van Mitchell, also known as “Moon Pie”, 82, of Lusby, MD and formerly of Manilla, AR, passed away on January 16, 2021 at his residence.

Born May 31, 1938 in Tuckerman, AR, he was the son of the late Rudolph Mitchell and Lavina (Huskey) Mitchell.

Jimmy graduated from Tuckerman High School and was a musician.  He loved to make guitars as well as play them.  Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, and widdle wood.

Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Janet Spargo (Michael) of Charlotte Hall, MD; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild on the way; and siblings, Lois Mitchell of CO, Maron Mitchell of Fort Smith, AR, and Eulayla Mitchell of AR. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janis (Regan) Mitchell on October 14, 2015; and his brother, Kenneth Mitchell.

A private service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Rausch Funeral Home, Lusby, MD. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Highlands Memorial Gardens, Port Republic, MD.  Serving as pallbearers will be Lamont Parson, Michael V. Spargo, Michael G. Spargo, Monty Parson, Ricky Parson and Ben Spargo.
