On June 19, 2017, the Junior Golf Tour kicked off for the fifth year at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course. The tour will visit Breton Bay, Swan Point, Mellomar, Wicomico Shores, and White Plains and will end up back at Chesapeake Hills for the final leg of the tour and a banquet. USGA and local rules govern the play.
The tour is open to anyone ages 8 through 17. The 8 – 10 Age Division plays 9 holes at 1,000 to 1,500 yards. The 11-14 Age Division plays 9 holes 2,000 to 3,000 yards, and the 15-17 Age Division plays 9 holes at 3,000 to 3,300 yards. Division Age 8-10 played the family tees, Division Age 11-14 Boys played the orange tees (Senior men’s tees) and boys 15-17 played the green tees (men’s tees). Girls 11-17 playing in the tour used the yellow tees (ladies tees). Score cards were exchanged between those playing together, so each one was responsible for keeping the other person’s score. Parents are able to help the 8-10 age group with keeping score.
The number of young players is increasing each year for the tour. On this day there were approximately 40 signed up. This is a competitive tournament and 3 years prior golf experience is preferred. If you know of a young golfer who would enjoy playing in the tournament, call Chesapeake Hills Golf Club and ask for General manager Tim Hepler. He will help get you signed up. And the rate for the youngsters is very affordable.
