Final Operation Backpack a Success!
This year’s effort, our final Operation Backpack, provided new backpacks and school supplies to 315 Calvert County students! When I first started this in 2009, I never imagined it would grow into something this big. 1,430 Calvert County students have participated in the Operation Backpack program over the last eleven years. And I’m excited to work on my vision for the next chapter – a community event which will help even more families get excited about and prepared for going back to school.
In the meantime, I have so many to thank for the success of Operation Backpack 2019: everyone who donated school supplies or made monetary donations, as well as Exelon, CalvertHealth Medical Center, Calvert Hospice, Prince Frederick Eagles, and Calvert Hip Mamas for holding internal collection drives for us, the Help Association, Inc., Optimist Club of Calvert County (Prince Frederick), Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, Sneade’s Ace Home Center, Quality Built Homes, Inc., Gentle Family Dentistry, Jetmore Insurance Group, Inc. and Calvert Internal Medicine for their generous support; Natalie Moore, Carla Kemp and Billy Saunders for holding the “Stuff the Jeep” event for us and the awesome volunteers who helped stuff, prep and distribute the backpacks.
Stay tuned for more information about our bigger and better back to school event!
