The League of Women Voters of Calvert County will hold a town hall meeting and open discussion regarding the Calvert County budget for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2016, (FY 2017) on Thursday, June 11 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the College of Southern Maryland – Prince Frederick campus (115 Williams Rd. – Building “B” Multi-Purpose room, Prince Frederick, MD). This meeting, which is free and open to the public, will focus on the Capital Improvement Plan and provide an opportunity for citizens to express priorities for large county projects.
County staff will describe how they develop the capital improvement budget and will then answer questions about the process. The League recently completed a study of the transparency of the local government and suggested changes to the county’s budget process. One of those changes was the need to listen to concerns and priorities of citizens early in the budget building process. This meeting will be the first of two meetings regarding the CIP budget. The next meeting, tentatively planned for September, will provide an opportunity to direct comments and questions to county staff and leaders. Please come prepared to discuss your views on what Capital Improvement projects should be funded.
