Marine Widow Gets Early Christmas Present Thanks to Local Businesses
We may have told you about Barbara MacNeil who is the widow of a Marine; she has been living in her home for 31 years. Several issues have hindered her ability to afford needed home repairs. She has been diagnosed with COPD and she needs to have knee replacement surgery in the near future. Her COPD symptoms can be intensified by the mold caused by leaking windows and roof.
Patuxent Habitat for Humanity volunteers along with volunteers from the PAX NAS CPOA’S & Nehemiah Lodge have repaired/replaced windows, doors, steps, handrails, her handicap ramp and several screens in her home to make it a little safer, healthier place for her to age gracefully in. The major roof replacement was just one of many critical repairs required to make Ms. Barbara’s quality of life a bit better. We are finally SO happy to report through generous and amazing donations from the community that her roof and gutters were finally able to be replaced just as the first snow fall was coming!
We worked hand in hand with Jerry Lewis Roofing and Rhodes Seamless Gutters to get it completed before Christmas so she wouldn’t have to endure another winter of worrying about the roof. Dan Muchow from Mold Remediation can go through and treat any lingering issues he might find. This project would not have been possible without the generous donations from PNC Bank, Simms Insurance Agency, Tall Timbers Marina, Shore Thing Shellfish, Double T Oyster Ranch proceeds from selling wreaths from “Wreaths Across America” along with some personal anonymous donors. We build strength, stability and independence though shelter.
