Between Baltimore and West Virginia
Impact to Traffic Expected on Interstates in Howard, Frederick, Washington, Allegany and Garrett Counties
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will assist with a multi-day mega move of a Press Crown for steel, between Baltimore City and West Virginia starting tomorrow night.
The haul will take place overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The convoy will stop Wednesday morning at the South Mountain I-70 West Welcome Center, before proceeding Wednesday night at 8 p.m. to continue the move on I-68 to the West Virginia line.
Capital City Group, of Columbus, OH, will handle the 140-mile transport, which consists of a 185-foot tractor trailer hauling the 570,000 pound Press Crown section. The convoy will travel:
- I-95 north
- I-695 north
- MD 26 west
- MD 32 south
- I-70 west (ramping off at I-97, then MD 32)
- I-68 west
Because of the size of the vehicle, the convoy will be traveling much slower than the posted speed limit. Two Maryland State Police (MSP) vehicles will escort the convoy, along with four private vehicles from the company. Motorists are advised to stay alert while on the travel route.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
