MDOT SHA To Start Resurfacing Improvement Project on 5 MD Ramps

2022-08-20

NEAR BWI THURGOOD MARSHALL AIRPORT IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY

Motorists Should Expect Nighttime Detours; Allow Additional Travel Time

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will start a resurfacing project on Sunday, August 21, to improve the driving surface and enhance safety on five ramps at the MD 170 (Aviation Boulevard)/I-195 interchange near BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County.

Crews will work nightly from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Sunday evening to Friday morning, to mill, patch and resurface the following ramps in sequential order:

northbound MD 170 to westbound I-195;

westbound I-195 to northbound and southbound MD 170;

southbound MD 170 to westbound I-195;

eastbound I-195 to southbound MD 170; and

southbound MD 170 to eastbound I-195.

The northbound MD 170 ramp to westbound I-195 will be temporarily closed during work hours for approximately four nights. Motorists will be directed to follow the detour to northbound 170; turn left onto Elkridge Landing Road; turn right onto southbound MD 170; then merge onto westbound I-195. Portable and overhead variable message signs will provide advanced notification of the work. Signs will guide motorists through the detour.

Once complete, crews will work on the westbound I-I95 to northbound and southbound MD 170, next. Each ramp will take approximately four nights to complete, with the entire project expected to be complete by mid-September, weather permitting. MDOT SHA contractor Team Cam Services LLC, of Linthicum, is performing the work.

Customers who have questions about this work may contact the MDOT SHA District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603. MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits as wmd511.maryland.govell as other traffic pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
