MDOT SHA Warns of Winter Weather Friday

2019-02-01 Leave a Comment

With Possible Morning and Evening Rush Hour Impacts

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is preparing for a statewide snow storm that could impact the Friday morning commute and linger throughout the day and early evening. The heaviest accumulations are expected in the mountains of far Western Maryland. The central region of the State is expected to pick up a few inches before the storm exits Friday evening.

Statewide, MDOT SHA crews will be staffed overnight and prepared to treat the roads. Residual salt remains on state-maintained roadways from Tuesday’s storm, acting as a first defense against the winter precipitation.  With pavement temperatures below freezing, drivers should use caution especially on ramps, bridges and overpasses.

With this snow, coupled with biting temperatures down into the twenties, motorists are advised to take extra precautions while traveling. MDOT SHA advises motorists to leave additional travel time for their Friday morning commute. Also, throughout winter, keep a winter survival kit in vehicles stocked with blankets, bottles of water and flares just in case of a breakdown.
