From the Department of Public Safety.
Kara has worked for Calvert County Government for a little over one year. Her job includes managing federal grant funds, writing incident actions plans and conducting damage assessments after a disaster. Kara also maintains the Calvert Prepare mobile app, which includes emergency alerts, local weather, power outage information, storm-related closures, social media, traffic updates, emergency management contact information, preparedness guidance and an interactive emergency kit checklist.
The Calvert Prepare mobile app is just one way she and her coworkers are working hard to make sure Calvert County is prepared for any type of disaster. Kara and the Emergency Management department also offer disaster preparedness presentations and trainings for the general public.
“My favorite part of my job is the people I get to work with. Both in the office and when engaging with the public, it is the connections I build that I find most valuable. Those interactions and relationships motivate me to work harder,” she said.
Kara was born and raised in Calvert County and recently moved back from Baltimore for work. While in Baltimore, she received a master’s in emergency health services and a post-baccalaureate certificate in emergency management from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Kara is currently working on her doctorate of public administration at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. She is also a certified EMT-B.
In her free time, she reads quite often both for school and pleasure, plays video games and loves to be outside.
