Meet Planner III Olivia Vidotto with the Department of Planning & Zoning.

2022-04-18

Olivia has worked for Calvert County Government for 28 years in Planning & Zoning. She reviews commercial site and residential subdivision plans from the beginning of the submittal process to approval. She also reviews other associated items like road and amenity plans, along with performing inspections, onsite meetings, presentations to different boards and working with the public to help with processes and specific property questions.

Additionally, Olivia takes pride in her job and explains the county has grown and changed in leaps and bounds over the last 30 years, with continued growth in residential and commercial projects. She notes it is challenging at times to retain the existing character of Calvert County while providing the residential and commercial components needed for the growing population, but Olivia cares personally and professionally about smart development to retain Calvert County’s unique charm.

Olivia became interested in planning and development years ago while working in the private sector for a surveying/engineering firm. She had a great supervisor who encouraged her to learn all the different aspects of surveying and development. Oliva found that she enjoyed how residential and commercial development begins with an idea, and so many components have to come together seamlessly to make that idea become a reality.

“I am lucky that I get to be part of site visits as projects are underway to see what was planned on paper becoming reality,” said Olivia. “At times my job can be demanding, time-sensitive with deadlines tied to all levels of reviews, and complicated with so many regulations to apply when reviewing. This makes the job challenging, interesting, stressful and fascinating all together. I love what I do and know that I am lucky to feel that way.”

Olivia was born and raised in Calvert County. She grew up in Owings and has lived in Calvert almost her entire life. Olivia’s grandmother was a Cranford from Huntingtown and her family has been traced back five generations.

Outside of work, Oliva is passionate about making every day count, enjoying life to the fullest, and encourages her friends to do the same. She loves traveling, spending time with friends, family and her granddaughter, and learning or trying new things. She enjoys painting (contemporary art), stained glass and refinishing furniture.

Please join us in thanking Olivia for her service!
