Donna Bird
Historic St. Mary’s City (HSMC) has chosen Donna Bird to be the new Public Programs Manager for the living history museum. Ms. Bird will be in charge of group tours, as well as creating programming and workshops to be available for the public throughout the year.
Beginning in 2001 as a museum guide, Ms. Bird expanded her role and moved into an interpretive position as Town Center Site Supervisor. As an interpreter, Donna was known for her work in colonial domestic skills, such as dyeing cloth with natural materials, as well as hearth cooking. During her time at Town Center, she was an integral part of the May Day program, and created the “Sheep, Wool, and Mittens” demonstration that focused on the stages of processing wool.
Moving into her new position, Donna is “excited about the transition,” and feels that “working with visitors on a daily basis helped me gain a strong understanding of what programs appeal to their interests.” States Ms. Bird, “I feel lucky to be able to work with such an exceptional group of people dedicated to the museum’s mission, which is the driving force behind it all.”
