Fills Two Vacancies
Governor Larry Hogan today announced the appointments of Mark A. Gardner and Richard Steyer to the State Labor Relations Board. The governor made these appointments following a review of the applicants.
“I would like to congratulate Mr. Gardner and Mr. Steyer on their appointments,” said Governor Hogan. “I am confident both will be committed to enforcing Maryland’s collective bargaining laws for state agencies and employees.”
Richard Steyer has been named to fill the Business Community vacancy created by the retirement of Mr. Edward J. Gutman. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Steyer practiced law for 41 years, 38 years in private practice and three years with the National Labor Relations Board. He has served as general counsel to non-profits, charitable, education, and scientific organizations. He received his J.D. from George Washington University’s Law Center.
Mark A. Gardner has been named to fill the Nominee of Exclusive Representatives seat, which has been vacant since October of 2016. Mr. Gardner is retired from the U.S. Postal Service and is the former National Secretary-Treasurer of the National Postal Mail Handlers Union. He also represented the National Postal Mail Handlers Union on the World Executive Board of UNI Global Unions and served as Vice-Chair of the Postal Employees’ Relief Fund.
These appointments are effective immediately.
