On Tuesday, February 27, 2018, the Calvert Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) invited the Northern High School (NHS) Girls’ Cross Country Team to the board’s meeting. Under the leadership of Head Coach Josh Dawson and Assistant Coach Kevin Delamer, the team won the 2017 Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association 3A Championship, with the lowest winning score in the history of the 3A classification.
The team members of the Northern High School Girls’ Cross Country Team State Champions are Catherine Bubser, Jenna Carpenter, Katie Delamer, Sarah Deresky, Claudia Dolan, Jessica Drake, Hannah Mack, Abby Setzfand, Abby Sweeney, Alyssa Tatum, Ashton Tatum and Kennedy Tatum.
The Northern High School Girls’ Cross country team are the 2017 Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) Champions for the 3rd consecutive year with a 47-straight league meet winning streak, the last recorded loss to another SMAC school on September 18, 2014. The team also won the 3A 2017 Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association Team Championship for Cross Country for the 2nd year in a row. They also won the 2017 3A South Regional Championship for the 4th consecutive year.
The Northern High School Girls’ Cross Country Team represents Northern High School and Calvert County with the highest degree of sportsmanship and fair play, and their success is attributed to the teamwork and dedication by all the members of the team.
The Calvert Board of County Commissioners paid tribute to the team for their dedication, many long hours of practice, fine performance and accomplishments.
The BOCC proclaimed sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued success and further proclaimed appreciation and thanks to the coaches for their guidance and encouragement to the team.
