The Northern High School Girls’ Soccer Team, under the leadership of Head Coach John P. Battle and Assistant Coaches Shaun Nicholson, Sam Turner, and Dr. Gerald P. Sterner, won the 2018 Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association 3A State Championship over Governor Thomas Johnson High School of Frederick County by a score of 4-1.
Members of the Northern High School Girls’ Soccer State Champions are Mallory Barrick, Anna Blanco, Alison Chase, Ashley Cope, Rachel Deresky, Kylie Donbullian, Sarah Eliff, Rose Fiacco, Samantha Flowers, Amber Harris, Sydney Krakat, Sophia Laserna, Kathryn Lawless, Eliza McLane, Ansley Meccia, Nina Mignardi, Madi Neall, Kaitlyn Parks, Caroline Stansbury, Taylor Tolson, Kayla Turner, Abigail Weyand, along with Team Managers/Statisticians Maggie Barrick and Cassidy Cooper.
The Northern High School Girls’ Soccer Team also won the 2018 Class 3A South Regional Championship for the second time in three years. The 2018 Northern High School Girls’ Soccer Team made history by winning the first Girls’ Soccer State Championship since the Girls Soccer program was started at Northern High School, representing Northern High School and Calvert County with the highest degree of sportsmanship and fair play. Their success is attributed to the teamwork and dedication by all members of the Girls’ Soccer Team.
The Calvert Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) paid tribute to the team’s dedication, many long hours of practice, fine performance and accomplishments. They wished the Northern High School Girls’ Soccer Team and coaches congratulations and best wishes for continued success, winning the 2018 Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) 3A Championship. They also proclaimed appreciation and thanks to the coaches for their guidance and encouragement to the team.
