The Patuxent High School NJROTC held their annual Santa Breakfast fundraiser at American Legion Post 274 in Lusby on December 18, 2016. The cadets, with the help of Legion and Sons of Legion members, cooked, cleaned, served and waited on attendees. Twenty two cadets, eight adults and six legion cooks accomplished the tasks. There were 216 breakfasts served, of which 52 were youngsters. This year’s attendance was the most breakfasts served.
Other cadets worked on crafts with the youngsters, making wreaths, candy cane reindeer, picture frames for their photo with Santa, reindeer food and writing letters to Santa, which would be mailed to New York, to be distributed to military members serving. Other cadets were busy helping the youngsters play pin the nose on Frosty, ring toss and bean bag throws, which won them a prize.
NJROTC adult leaders were busy selling 50/50 raffles, tending the bake sale (which sold out), and raffling off the centerpieces.
Santa Claus (AKA Bruce Dixon) held center stage, taking time for each child to sit on his lap for a picture, and sometimes with family too. Lots of picture taking with family, friends and others. Santa helpers gave a small present to each child.
“I thank the community for coming out and supporting us”, Jada Stuckert, NJROTC Boosters President remarked. “I can’t thank them enough. Without their support, we couldn’t do this. I also thank the American Legion Post 274 for letting us hold it here”.
