Operation Backpack Registration Opens July 5

2016-06-26

backpacksCalvert County families in need of new backpacks and school supplies for their children can register online at www.TheChildrensAid.org.

Participation in this year’s Operation Backpack Program is limited to the first 170 registrants.

Approved families will receive an appointment time to pick-up their backpack(s) on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Prince Frederick.

Often, children who do not have the proper school supplies are too ashamed to admit it and end up falling behind.  Students cannot do their best if they do not have the right tools. Our goal is to highlight the importance of education as well as help the students approach the beginning of the school year with a greater sense of confidence and hope.

Operation Backpack provides registered Calvert children with a backpack filled with new school supplies and a new, age-appropriate book.  To date, 580 Calvert County children have participated in the Operation Backpack Program.

Children’s Aid, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency established in 2009 by the Brezina Family. We provide assistance to Calvert Countychildren in need.  Through our programs, we strive to promote the importance of education and literacy.  We also provide children with opportunities to play recreation level sports, which not only  helps keep kids active, it also helps promote self discipline, leadership, team work, cooperation, trust and respect.

Currently, we operate several programs. Operation Backpack provides economically disadvantaged children with a backpack filled with new school supplies and a new, age-appropriate book.  In an effort to provide at-risk children with opportunities for physical activity, we provide Youth Sports Scholarships for a variety of activities, including football, soccer, basketball and baseball.  The purpose of our Great Book Giveaway Program is twofold: to give books to children who otherwise might not have books (or many books) of their own and to educate parents on the importance of reading aloud to their young children.  Through our Christmas Cheer Program, we distribute Christmas stockings and new books to local children.
