Owings House Fire Under Investigation

Deputy State Fire Marshals are currently investigating the origin and cause of a morning fire at 7650 Lake Shore Drive in OwingsFire Marshal of Calvert County. Around 10:30 am, firefighters from Dunkirk, North Beach, Huntingtown, Prince Fredrick and several Anne Arundel County departments were alerted to the fire.

The two story, wood framed single family dwelling was heavily damaged, which caused it to collapsed. A single adult female occupant was in the structure at the time of the fire and reported the fire to 911. Upon the dispatch of the fire, two local off-duty Prince George’s County firemen arrived at the scene. They made entry into the structure, discovered a female occupant and removed her from the residence. The two firemen began life saving efforts immediately. The victim was subsequently flown to Medstar Washington Hospital where she is currently in critical condition.

The extensive damage to the structure has caused an estimated loss of $350,000, with appoximately $275,000.00 of damages in the property and an additional $75,000.00 worth of damages to the personal contents within the dwelling.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. Anyone with information in reference to the fire is asked to call the Southern Region Office of the State Fire Marshal at 443-550-6820
