The Patuxent High School Football Team, (The Panthers), under the leadership of Head Coach Steve Crounse and Assistant Coaches Nick Allen, Mike Bartley, Jim Esposito, Stevenson Foote, Scott Goldstein, Greg Horning, Derek Law, Ricky Mason, Craig Reeves and Chris Wright, won their first Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) 2A Championship. The Panthers defeated Walkerville High School, Frederick County, with a final score 21-20.
Members of the Patuxent Panthers Football Team State Champions are Sean Atkins, Dajon Brooks, Tracy Brooks, Robert Cella, Phillip Coffman, Reese Crounse, Tazman Davis, Mikey Donaldson, Issac Fleming, Yanni Gardner, Jaelen Gross, Tyler gross, Gabriel Gumbs, Ben hagan, Justin Hansen, Justin Hansen, Mason harding, Reyquon Holland, Andrew Kalinoski, Rayshaun Kelley, Devin Lambert, Marshall Lanning, Tommy Lee, Greg Leonard, Chris Long, Jared Messengill, James McClanahan, Brendan McCrae, Ethan McKinney, Josh Murphy, Tim Nickisch, Darren Oliver, Chris Pendleton, Robbie Robinson, Dylan Scruggs, Arley Shepherd, Dwayne Smith, Chris Stone, Joel Torney, Michael VanBuren, Vonnie Watkins, Nick Young and Myron Young II.
The Panthers have been in the MPSSAA playoffs for five consecutive seasons. They have played in State Championship games in two of the last three seasons, and won the second Football State Championship game in the history of Calvert County. They also achieved the first male State Championship in the 20 year history of Patuxent high School. The Panthers were ranked seventh in the Washington Post.
The Calvert Board of County Commissioners paid tribute to the team for their dedication, may long hours of practice, their fine performance and accomplishments. The BOCC presented the Panthers with a proclamation, and congratulated them on winning the 2015 2A State Championship. The BOCC wished the team continued success and thanked the coaches for their guidance and encouragement.
