At 7:03 am, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and the Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the intersection of Maryland Route 4 and Dares Beach Road for a reported motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian struck. Upon arrival units found a female lying in the middle of the road who was unresponsive.
The driver of the Nissan is Trista John Smith a white female 11/16/65 from Saint Leonard, Maryland.
The pedestrian is Veronica Disney a white female 09/27/61 from Chesapeake Beach, Maryland.
Preliminary investigation shows that a gray 2011 Nissan Altima was traveling north on MD RT 4 in lane one and was proceeding with a green light through the intersection when pedestrian continued to attempt to cross MD RT 4 from the east side of Dare Beach RD towards the Safeway. According to a witness who was walking with Ms. Disney, she was talking on her cell phone and was not paying attention to traffic. The witness attempted to stop Ms. Disney but she continued to walk into traffic apparently aware of the danger. Ms. Disney was transported to Prince Georges Hospital Shock Trauma unit with severe injuries. The investigation continues and anyone with information related to this crash is asked to call Dfc.
