On August 23, 2016 the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a confined space rescue just before 6 pm in the 1900 block of Joanna Court in Prince Frederick, MD.
The homeowner said her elderly cocker spaniel named Sam, who is deaf and blind, was located at the bottom of a deep well. As our department and a few units from surrounding stations were prepping for the rescue, we realized the only way to get the dog out was to set up a rope system from the Tower and lower a firefighter to bottom (30-40 feet below).
As our first responder was lowered, he not only found about six feet of water, but little Sam on a ledge. Sam and our firefighter were raised to safety and the dog was returned to his family without injuries. Units operated on the scene for about 40 minutes.
Bravo to our Hometown Heroes for this compassionate rescue!!! Shout out and Well Done to our outstanding volunteers in the Calvert County Fire and Rescue Service! This story warms my heart.
