PFVFD Rescues Elderly Cocker Spaniel from Well

2016-08-25

IMG_2549On August 23, 2016 the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a confined space rescue just before 6 pm in the 1900 block of Joanna Court in Prince Frederick, MD.

The homeowner said her elderly cocker spaniel named Sam, who is deaf and blind, was located at the bottom of a deep well. As our department and a few units from surrounding stations were prepping for the rescue, we realized the only way to get the dog out was to set up a rope system from the Tower and lower a firefighter to bottom (30-40 feet below).

As our first responder was lowered, he not only found about six feet of water, but little Sam on a ledge. Sam and our firefighter were raised to safety and the dog was returned to his family without injuries. Units operated on the scene for about 40 minutes.
