This is another of the restaurants participating in Restaurant Week in Calvert County.
The Pier is a restaurant built over the Patuxent River in Solomons. In its early days it was a movie theater, and metamorphosed into a several different restaurants over the years. After renovations, it was recently reopened as The Pier.
It was Friday night and parking was limited, so be prepared to walk a short distance. The door to the restaurant is in the middle of the side of the building, accessed by a sidewalk. Located inside the door is the hostess stand. I explained I was waiting on two more and she said she would show me to the table and let the other two know when they arrived.
The first thing I noticed was the noise level coming from the bar area. It was pretty loud. The bar is located between the two dining areas with no sound walls to protect diners. I had been there for brunch and had not encountered it being noisy.
With my two guests arriving, we ordered our ice teas and settled on an appetizer to share, the crab and cheese dip. It came with a small loaf of crusty bread and some crackers. When it arrived a short time later, we decided on our entrées. For Restaurant Week, a lobster dinner with Brussel sprouts and roasted potatoes and peanut butter pie for dessert was a special, so we ordered one. The other two entrées were the Lobster Caesar Salad and the Stuffed Shrimp with Crab Imperial.
The lobster dinner hit the spot. The lobster was a good size, and steamed to perfection. The pan fried potatoes were tasty, but the spouts were too well done for my taste. The peanut butter pie was served in a small pie plate and was very good. The Stuffed Shrimp was perfectly prepared. The shrimp was sweet and tender, the crab filling was abundant and succulent. The cream sauce added to the flavor and did not over power the taste of crab. Sides were French fries and a side salad. The salad greens were very fresh and crisp. The Lobster Caesar Salad was full of chunks of lobster on top of romaine, croutons and parmesan cheese and dressed with lime Caesar dressing. One of the best lobster salads I have ever had. Two more desserts were ordered to go with the peanut butter pie. We opted for ice cream and the Red Velvet Smith Island Cake. All three desserts were worth the extra calories!
The Pier offers a kid’s menu with several items and comes with a fountain drink and fruit. The menu includes soups, salads and sandwiches.
Our server was attentive, but not intrusive. I enjoyed my evening in a relaxed atmosphere with good friends and as happy hour ended at the bar, so did the noise level.
