On New Year’s Day, January 1, 2019, 387 brave plungers jumped into the 48 degree Chesapeake Bay at North Beach, while the air temperature reached a balmy 63 degrees, even though it looked like rain and was windy.
All the plungers signed a liability waiver and those that paid the fee received a tee shirt. The entry fees were going to Relay for Life, later on this year. Relay for Life is moving their event to North Beach this year.
Mayor Mike Benton and Councilman Mickey Hummel both participated in the plunge. Afterwards, all the plungers were able to gather around a warm fire with a hot drink.
