On Sunday May 17, 2015 the Southern Maryland Young Marines went to DC to welcome WWII and Korean War veterans to the memorial during the 2015 Honor Flight. Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. They transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.
The Southern Maryland Young Marines spent their day welcoming the veterans, listening to stories, and learning US history first hand. It’s one thing to sit in a classroom and learn about history, but it’s another to hear it first hand from a true hero that lived it. It was an amazing experience for these young men and women and one that will stick with them for a long time.
