Following a home opening sellout on June 4th and a 7-0 Blue Crabs victory over the Long Island Ducks, Brandon Barker (L, 0-2) took the mound for the Blue Crabs this evening as they tried to secure their second win at home in as many games. Southern Maryland’s defensive errors and walks issued were their downfall on Saturday night in a 19-3 loss.
The Blue Crabs were the first to score, coming off a hot shot from the bat of Josh McAdams. Zach Collier was the beacon of hope for Southern Maryland’s offense, scoring a run and finishing the contest a single shy of the cycle. Ultimately, Collier walked in the ninth inning, unable to complete the cycle.
The Ducks tied the game in the top of the second inning when Clint Freeman roped a single into center field, scoring Ryan Jackson.
A few errors and a shaky outing from Blake Bivens was all the Ducks needed to blow this game open as they scored a combined 18 runs from the fourth inning on. Steve Lombardozzi had himself a night for the Ducks as he was able to reach base in six of his seven at-bats. Lombardozzi ended the night 4-5 with two RBI doubles.
It was a night to forget for the Southern Maryland faithful, who came out in flocks to the second Blue Crabs home game of 2021. Southern Maryland dropped the second game of the series by a score of 19-3.
