Chesapeake Beach Residents should remain off the roadways if possible as crews continue to clean up from yesterdays snow event.
There are power lines that are on the ground, PLEASE stay away from any downed wires and do not walk over them, near or around them. Downed and dangling power lines are extremely dangerous and contact with live lines may result in serious injury or death. Consider all wires ENERGIZED and dangerous. Even lines that are de-energized may become energized at any time. Stay at least 10 feet away from downed wires and NEVER attempt to remove trees or objects that are touching or near a downed wire. Never use any object to move a downed wire. Electricity can travel through the ground. A live wire touching the ground can harm you even if you do not touch the wire.
If a broken power line should fall on your vehicle:
- Stay inside the vehicle until help arrives, as your car may be energized.
- Warn others not to touch the vehicle and have them call for help.
- If you must leave the vehicle, jump as far away as possible with both feet landing on the ground at the same time.
- DO NOT touch the vehicle and the ground at the same time.If someone makes contact with a downed power line, don’t try to rescue them because you risk becoming a victim yourself. Call 911.
Richfield Station and RT260: Due to State Highway RT 260 closures, entry and exit of Richfield Station remains limited. When exiting Richfield Station at RT260 turn right and stay in the slow lane on RT260. There are cones set up to direct the flow of traffic (see image below). The Red arrows show the traffic change to enter Richfield Station, crossing over at St. Andrews and going west on east RT260 in the fast lane.
Road Conditions in Town: Crews continue to work on Town streets clearing snow and applying salt. Freezing conditions caused equipment delays this morning.
