To Be Held November 3, 2018
The “Step By Step” 5k Fun Run/Walk will be take place on November 3rd. Sponsored by the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA), with assistance from the Chesapeake Bay Running Club (CBRC), the race is held in memory of Mr. Blackwell – a marathon runner killed while jogging on Broomes Island Road. Proceeds from this event benefit CAASA’s alcohol and other substance abuse prevention programs and activities in the community.
The race will start and finish at the Calvert Marine Museum. Early registration and check-in begins at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9:00 a.m. The 3.1-mile course covers scenic roadways along the river, back-bay, and neighborhoods in Solomons. We’ll have refreshments, door prizes, t-shirts for the first 125 registrants, and awards for runners and walkers. The pre-registration donation is $30 for adults, $20 for students (18 and under), and $25 for CBRC and CAASA members. The day of the race donation is $40. Strollers are welcomed with walkers. This year we’ve added the Kids’ Half Mile Super Hero Dash so bring the kids out for an event all their own.
The ½ mile dash is for children ages 6 and younger. The Dash check-in is 7:45 a.m. with an 8:15 a.m. start time. Participants will run on the grassy area just beside the Calvert Marine Museum. Parents are allowed on the course. The children are encouraged to dress in their favorite super hero costume (be sure they are safe to run in). All runners will receive a certificate and the top finisher in each category (ages 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6) will receive a trophy. The child voted the best super hero costume will receive a $25 gift card.
