Located on Solomons Island, it offers beautiful views of Back Creek. It is refined enough to have an important meeting but also casual enough to stop in for a beer and some fare after work. There is an outside deck, several transient slips, and an upstairs dining area and bar.
My friends and I took a table by the windows that looked out over Back Creek. It was early afternoon and the sight of boats coming and going was enjoyable. Our waiter appeared and brought us menus. We ordered our beverages and decided our appetizer would be the Kingfisher Sampler. It consisted of 4 fried oysters, four chicken wings, 4 hushpuppies and 4 Rockfish bites. Each of us found something we enjoyed on the sampler. The chicken was especially good with no breading and nice and tender. The oysters were lightly breaded and seasoned lightly.
For our entrées we chose a Caesar Salad with Bacon Wrapped Scallops, Maryland Crab Soup with a salad and a shrimp basket. The Caesar Salad was requested with no croutons but lots of fresh Parmesan Cheese with fresh greens. The bacon wrapped scallops were very tasty. The Maryland Crab Soup was okay but nothing special. Kingfisher’s crab soup is usually better than what I had this day. The basic salad that comes with the lunch special was nice and fresh. The shrimp basket was good, with the shrimp crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The Cole slaw tasted fresh and the French fries made a nice accompaniment to the shrimp.
No meal is complete until you have dessert. This was no exception. So we ordered Bailey’s Irish Cheesecake, Apple Crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and Key Lime Pie. Coffee was requested and our waiter, Tom, said he would brew us a fresh cup. Cheesecake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream was really good with the fresh coffee. The warm apple crisp with the scoop of vanilla was described as divine. The Key Lime Pie was made with key limes and not artificially colored. It was the best I have had in sometime.
The service by Tom was awesome and he was able to answer our questions without hesitation. It was a nice dining experience at lunchtime. Looks like another visit in order to try some of the other offerings.
