When Corleta Carroll enrolled her 6-year-old daughter, Cecelia, in College of Southern Maryland Kids’ and Teen College classes last summer she wanted an experience that would be enriching for Cecelia and also fun. “I was happy that Cecelia was continuing to learn over the summer. She was excited because she was coming to college with me, and also because she is a ‘people person’ and the classes would provide opportunities for her to make new friends,” said Carroll, who is pursuing her associate degree.
Cecelia took “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and “Sensational Stories,” both with components of reading, writing, arts and crafts. “She has always loved reading, but she wasn’t as fond of writing. The classes helped her develop writing skills which she continues to improve on,” Carroll said.
“Even though summer vacation is months away, Cecelia is already asking if she’s coming back to college,” Carroll said.
