The Employee Recognition Committee (ERC) was pleased to recommend employees of the Water and Sewerage Division for a Team Excellence Award for their performance during Winter Storm Inga. The team Excellence Award recognizes employees who have excelled as a group and displayed cooperation and teamwork in support of a common goal or project.
The Water and Sewerage Division during the Winter Storm Inga recognized these employees: Travis Bailey, Ryan Bowen, Nicholas Buckler, Bryan Gatton Sr, Mike Harrington, Stefon Ryan and Robert Thomas.
Winter Storm Inga affected the entire East Coast in early January 2018. In Calvert County 5 inches of snow fell, followed by extreme cold temperatures, high winds, and freezing rain, from Thursday, January 4 through Sunday January 7. During the storm, schools and many businesses, including County Government and Offices were closed. Temperatures went from the 30’s to single digits, without factoring in the wind chill.
The Water and Sewerage Division maintenance and on-call crews were called in to work to locate and repair water main breaks at Calvert Beach, Kenwood Beach and the Chesapeake Lighthouse communities during the four days. Several of the same crew members reported to all of the water main repairs and worked in extreme cold and wet conditions, often late into the night.
Those employees went above and beyond their job descriptions, worked in tough, under pressure situations without it affecting the quality of their work, and exemplified considerable dedication to their job and the citizens to ensure these residents had clean drinking water during the storm.
Congratulations on a job well done!
