Teen Leadership Academy participants volunteered with Farming4Hunger during a visit to Serenity Farm on June 28. Twenty-seven teens from Calvert, Charles, St. Mary’s, and Prince George’s counties joined in the 2nd Annual Teen Leadership Academy (TLA) from June 26 – 29 hosted at the College of Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick, Md.
Led by TLA Coordinator Drew Willard (eighth-grade history teacher at Leonardtown Middle School and assistant baseball coach at St. Mary’s College of Maryland), the teens explored characteristics of good leadership. They had a day dedicated to energy sources available in Southern Maryland, a day to tour Historic St. Mary’s City and a visit to Serenity Farm to learn more about leadership through the agricultural, economic, and social impact of Farming4Hunger, and a day to present their own projects on how to be effective leaders.
