North Beach Community Gathers to Light Up Gorgeous 24-Foot-Tall Christmas Tree
The North Beach Boardwalk overflowed with the warmth and joy of the holidays on the evening of Saturday, November 29th as the community gathered for its annual Light Up the Town event.
Just before sunset, North Beach Union Church performed Christmas carols, while guests enjoyed festive cookies, hot chocolate, and the ever-captivating view of the Chesapeake Bay. But the obvious star of the day was the giant 24-foot-tall, extravagantly decorated Christmas tree located near the town pavilion.
At 7pm, families and friends bundled up in warm hats and reindeer costumes to witness and celebrate the lighting of the tree. This popular event was a clear success. One of North Beach’s councilwomen spoke on behalf of Mayor Benton, welcoming the hundreds of guests and building suspense for the grand event with trivia regarding the impressive tree, which took two full days to perfect, and whose decorations, comprising 900 intricate ornaments, weighs in at 7000 lbs. The crowd counted down from ten, and exploded in cheers when the sparkling tree was illuminated.
North Beach cherishes community, and November 29th was a beautiful success to ring in the holiday season for these cozy neighborhoods. With December 7th and the North Beach Holiday Parade just around the corner, we’re excited to see what holiday celebrations this town has in store for the rest of the season.
