Barbara Wiseman, Office Specialist I for the Department of Public Works, retired January 10, 2020, after dedicating 33 years of faithful and loyal service to the citizens of Calvert County and the State of Maryland.
Barbara’s admirable career began March 12, 1986, as a Compactor Operator at the Mt. Hope Compactor Site, with the Solid Waste Division. She distinguished herself among her peers, as one of the original Weigh Clerks utilizing only one weigh scale at the Barstow Landfill, when was promoted to Weigh Clerk on August 23, 1988. She moved to the Appeal Landfill in March 1993, increasing to two weigh scales. She faithfully opened the Weigh Scale Office by 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday and every other Saturday, greeting all drivers with the utmost courtesy and consideration.
She was promoted to Office Specialist I on July 27, 2015; her outstanding professionalism and dedication to her position sets an example for others. With tremendous patience, she scheduled bulk pick-up calls while handling other phone calls for the Solid Waste Division. Barbara courteously welcomed new residents to the County and explained waste services, providing reliable and exemplary service during her career; thereby gaining tremendous respect, trust, and admiration from Calvert County citizens and fellow constituents who had the pleasure to work with her.
Barbara always prepared the Holiday Luncheon at the Appeal Landfill and is well-known for her famous chicken wings, which everyone enjoyed along with all the other foods she prepared. Her admirable and distinguished service has been demonstrated with a spirit of pride and commitment throughout her exemplary career with the Solid Waste Division.
The Calvert Board of County Commissioners presented a proclamation on January 7, 2020, as a tribute to Barbara’s outstanding accomplishments during her distinguished career; thereby, recognizing this amazing individual who strove to improve the quality of life for all Calvert County citizens.
It was proclaimed by the Calvert Board of County Commissioners that the appreciation of all Calvert County citizens is hereby extended to Barbara Wiseman on her Retirement after 33 years of reliable and commendable public service. It was further proclaimed that the Calvert Board of County Commissioners joined with the community, co-workers, family, and friends of Barbara in conveying best wishes for a long, healthy, and happy retirement with continued success in all her future endeavors.
